It is with great regret that we report the passing of John Murphy on Sunday, September 7, 2014.
“Murph” was one of the founding members of Central Loudoun Little League, instrumental in forming Dulles Little League, and a constant presence since the forming of Virginia District 16. To many of us with in District 16 and the local Little Leagues, he represented everything about what a true Little League volunteer should be. District 16 and Little League were enriched by his presence and participation.
On behalf of District 16 and Little League, our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. He will be missed.
Update: Friends may call on Thursday, September 11, 2014 from 6:00PM to 9:00PM at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle, SE, Leesburg, VA.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 12, 2014 at 1:30PM at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Oak Crest Manor Drive, Leesburg, VA. Interment will follow in Leesburg Union Cemetery, Leesburg, VA.
I had the pleasure of meeting Murph a few times and I think he was the greatest example to people who may wonder what the spirit of little league is all about. His tireless volunteer efforts were the foundation for some great little leagues in our area and the kids who play baseball in Loudoun County today owe him a debt of gratitude. Condolences to Murph’s family and friends and thank you for sharing him with us.
