9-10 Game 4 Suspended

9-10 Game 4 at Haske Field was suspended last night in the bottom of the 6th inning due to lightning. It will be resumed at 6pm tonight at Haske.

1. If the pitcher delivered 20 or less pitches before the game was suspended, that pitcher’s pitch count will begin at zero for the continuation portion of the game;
2. If the pitcher delivered between 21 and 40 pitches before the game was suspended, that pitcher’s pitch count will begin with the number of pitches delivered in that game;

Game 5
Game 5 will start 30 minutes after the continuation game before them ends, but no earlier than their originally scheduled time. Teams can take batting practice as scheduled while the continuation games are being played. They are allowed up to 10 minutes of fielding practice.

Concussion Training

Due to the Virginia State Legislation (Virginia 2014 Va. Acts, Chap. 760 (2014 HB 410/SB 172)) that went into effect January 1, 2014, all tournament team managers and coaches are required to take the National Federation of High Schools “Concussion in Sports” training course.

This is a free course available on line at http://nfhslearn.com/courses/38000. There is no charge for this course and it should take no more than 30 minutes.

Each tournament manager and coach, all district staff members, and all tournament officials must take one of these two courses each calendar year.

10-11 Baseball Three-Way Tie

In the 10-11 Year-Old Baseball Tournament, Pool B ended in a 3-way tie for first, with Upper Loudoun American, Dulles American, and Lower Loudoun all ending with a 2-1 record. Since only two teams advance, Little League tie breakers were applied to determine the top two of the three teams.

Head-to-head is the first tie breaker, but each of the teams beat one of the tied teams and lost to the other. Therefore, we used the second tie breaker, Runs Allowed Ratio (runs allowed divided by defensive innings played).

Runs Allowed Ratios

  • ULLLA had 14/16 = 0.875 RAR
  • DLLA had 19/17 = 1.178 RAR
  • LLLL had 14/17 = 0.824 RAR

By virtue of the lowest Runs Allowed Ratio, LLLL wins the second tie breaker and the pool.

To break the remaining tie, DLLA vs. ULLLA, head-to-head is used. Since DLLA beat ULLLA, DLLA takes the second place in the pool.

In Pool A, Upper Loudoun National and Central Loudoun National had already advanced.
